fungal pyrimidine metabolism pathway enzyme targeted by antibiotic

Ontology CARD's Antibiotic Resistance Ontology
Accession ARO:3009197
DefinitionA family of enzymes involved in pyrimidine metabolism, including uracil phosphoribosyltransferases and uridylate kinases, among others. Certain antifungal drugs target these enzymes to disrupt this pathway, for example by preventing the formation of UMP, thereby hindering cellular metabolism and resulting in cell death. Mutations in these enzymes may prevent antifungal activity and are thus associated with antifungal resistance.
