alpha-fimbriae

Accession VIRO:0000252
Synonym(s)colonization factor antigen I (CFA/I)-like fimbriae Class 5 fimbriae alpha clade fimbriae alternate chaperone-usher
DefinitionThe alpha-clade fimbriae are found in enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli. These fimbriae are similar to colonization factor antigen I (CFA/I). This family consists of CFA/I, CS1, CS2, CS4, CS5, CS14, CS17, CS19, and PCF071 pili. Class 5 fimbriae can be further classified into three distinct groups based on phylogenetic relationships between the adhesin and pilin genes of the fimbriae.
