Synonym(s) | alpha clade fimbriae alternate chaperone-usher Class 5 fimbriae colonization factor antigen I (CFA/I)-like fimbriae |
Definition | The alpha-clade fimbriae are found in enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli. These fimbriae are similar to colonization factor antigen I (CFA/I). This family consists of CFA/I, CS1, CS2, CS4, CS5, CS14, CS17, CS19, and PCF071 pili. Class 5 fimbriae can be further classified into three distinct groups based on phylogenetic relationships between the adhesin and pilin genes of the fimbriae. |
