DefinitionA membrane-embedded nanomachine found in Gram-negative bacteria to translocate proteins, called effectors, from the cytosol to the cytoplasm or plasma membrane of the target cell. The machine is syringe-like in structure and has been thus called the injectisome. Note the difference in spelling from the injectosome in Gram-positive bacterial secretion machinery.
