benzimidazole resistant fungal cytochrome P450 enzyme [AMR Gene Family]

Ontology CARD's Antibiotic Resistance Ontology
Accession ARO:3009546
DefinitionThe cytochrome P450 enzyme family is central to multiple biosynthetic pathways in fungi, inclusive of sterol synthesis. Benzimidazole fungicides primarily target beta-tubulin to prevent microtubule assembly and cell division. Mutations in certain P450 enzymes have been observed to confer benzimidazole resistance by altering fungal metabolism, cell wall composition, or membrane composition even though P450 enzymes are not the direct drug target.
