calcineurin inhibitor resistant BycA [AMR Gene Family]

Ontology CARD's Antibiotic Resistance Ontology
Accession ARO:3009564
DefinitionBycA specifically influences the morphological state of fungi by unrestricting Protein Kinase A (PKA). Under normal conditions calcineurin acts as the master regulator by suppressing the transcription of the bycA gene at the mRNA level. By keeping BycA levels minimized, downstream PKA activity remains low which ultimately permits virulent hyphal growth in fungi. When calcineurin is inhibited the transcriptional suppression on the bycA promoter is immediately lifted. This ultimately causes the fungal cell to bind extracellular amino acids leading to a conformational change that forces the fungus into a yeast-locked, avirulent state.
