Aspergillus fumigatus cyp51a with mutations conferring resistance to itraconazole

Ontology CARD's Antibiotic Resistance Ontology
Accession ARO:3009202
CARD Short NameAfum_CYP51a_ITZ
DefinitionThe P450 enzyme system, which may be alternatively named the Cyp51 enzyme system in some fungi, is integral to ergosterol synthesis. Azoles target lanosterol demethylase thereby halting ergosterol production and ultimately compromises fungal cell membrane integrity. Mutations to the P450/Cyp51 genes have been shown to inhibit azole activity.
AMR Gene Familyazole-resistant fungal cytochrome P450 enzyme
Drug Classazole antibiotic, benzimidazole antifungal, imidazole antibiotic, triazole antifungal
Resistance Mechanismantibiotic target alteration
